About Dr. Sarah Adams

Dr. Sarah Adams, MD, MSc, FRCPC (psychiatry) is a doctor who specializes in psychiatry. She graduated with high distinction from the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in the social sciences. She then completed a Masters degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in London, England. After finishing medical school, she completed a 5-year residency training program in psychiatry at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Adams runs two provincial workshops – CBT Insomnia and an ADHD Skills workshop – that have been taken by thousands of people across British Columbia. She lives in B.C. with her husband and daughter.

ADHD CBT: Live online workshop series

This workshop is helpful for adults with ADHD who are motivated to improve their executive functioning skills and to learn more about ADHD.

  • 8-week duration. Weekly 1.5 hour sessions on Zoom.
  • Each workshop has a maximum of 23 new participants from across British Columbia.
  • All of the workshop notes are sent to participants before each session, so you are never required to take notes.
  • Available to British Columbia residents only. In contrast, our self-paced online course is not restricted geographically.
  • Cost of the Zoom workshop is covered for BC residents with a doctor’s referral, except for a one-time $45 registration fee to cover the cost of our growing team.

ADHD CBT: Self-paced online course

We have developed an ADHD self-paced, online course for people who would prefer to complete it in their own time in a more flexible format. This is a great fit for motivated individuals who want to jump in right away and who would prefer to work through the course on their own rather than engaging in a live workshop during the workday.

  • Recorded video course.
  • Self-paced –can watch and re-watch anytime.
  • 6-months of access to the videos and course materials, allowing you to rewatch the videos multiple times.
  • Solo-style learning rather than online classroom.
  • Registration is not restricted geographically, although intended for Canadians who currently reside within Canada.
  • Curriculum is the same as our live, online workshop and includes approximately 12 hours of recorded content.

Week 1: Workshop orientation and overview, learning more about ADHD, how to get the most out of the workshop, time blindness in ADHD and how to improve time awareness & time management.

Week 2: How to get the most out of your planner, calendar & to-do list system.

Week 3: Prioritization and improving time management.

Week 4: Procrastination in ADHD and practical strategies to make it easier to get started on tasks with less avoidance.

Week 5: Improving focus in daily life and how to set goals that you will actually achieve.

Week 6: Navigating strong emotions, such as anxiety, anger, depression and feeling resistance to change.

Week 7: All about sleep and actionable strategies to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep.

Week 8: Improving self-care and daily routines, reviewing the top take-aways from the workshop and next steps.

Questions & Answers

Our live ADHD workshop offered on Zoom is approximately 90 minutes once per week over 8 weeks. You stay with the same workshop cohort for the 8 weeks and your session is always on the same day and time each week.

Our self-paced ADHD course includes approximately 12 hours of recorded content that you can watch in your own time. You will have access to the content for 6 months.

Any adult 18 years-plus with ADHD.

We don’t like to use the word homework, because who likes that word? However, each week you will learn many new skills that can help improve your day to day functioning. If you practice using these new skills in your own life in between the workshop sessions, you will get even more out of the workshop.

No! If you feel that you would benefit from the workshop, you are welcome to attend.

If you are interested in the live Zoom workshop that is covered by MSP, a doctor’s referral is required. We also accept referrals from nurse practitioners and walk-in clinic doctors. 

Our self-paced ADHD workshop does not require a doctor’s referral.

The workshop will teach you so much about ADHD. You will also learn dozens of tools to help improve your day-to-day life, such as tools to help improve organization and prioritization and tools to help you decrease procrastination. Currently our live workshops are always held on weekdays, either from 9:00 – 10:30 AM (PST) or from Noon – 1:30 PM (PST).

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is a practical, goal-oriented therapy focusing on present problems, with the core idea that thoughts affect feelings and daily actions. CBT identifies and challenges negative thinking, changes harmful behaviors, and helps you learn healthier coping strategies to improve mood and daily functioning.

Yes! CBT is recognized as an effective psychological treatment for adults with ADHD. It is recommended in the CADDRA treatment guidelines (CADDRA stands for Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance, a national, not-for-profit organization)
